Interests
Portals to the Self: A Women’s Circle by the Sea Isla Mujeres, Mexico March 14 - 21, 2015 Spring Equinox Ceci McDonnell LISW and Karen Rosenberg, LISW, experienced therapists and guides, are offering their women’s retreats for the 13th year. This year we will be on Isla during Spring Equinox and will create ceremony at the temple of the Mayan Moon Goddess, Ixchel. Joining Ceci and Karen will be Lisa Hernandez who lives on Isla Mujeres. Lisa is a guide of indigenous sacred sites and a teacher of the ancient Maya and their culture. As a Yoga teacher, her devotion is to help women inhabit their bodies with loving-attention and respect, inviting us to respond intuitively to our body’s wisdom. The Isla Mujeres, Mexico retreat is on a beautiful island, Isle of Women, in the turquoise blue Caribbean Sea. This small island, sacred to Ixchel, the Mayan Moon Goddess, was historically a place for healing rituals among the Mayan people. Participants will stay at the NaBalam, an intimate, informal hotel on the beach where landscaped trails, tropical gardens with hammocks hidden away and the beauty of the ocean will provide a perfect abode for the retreat. We will create ritual at the ancient temple ruins of the Goddess Ixchel. Yoga, storytelling, journaling, guided imagery, and more…. will serve as forms to access the myriad of blessings and beauty that flow freely in each of us. We invite women to gather for a time of retreat and replenishment. Together, we will create a circle of abundance, compassion and support as we weave together our stories and wisdom, becoming midwives of our dreams and visions. Space is limited. ON GATHER THE WOMEN GLOBAL MATRIX

I am a clinical social worker who has worked for many years with women in a variety of settings. I strongly believe in the healing power of community in women's lives and am committed to the process of creating communities which encourage women's growth, individually and collectively. I am in private practice and also lead women's circles with my co-madre and colleague, Ceci McDonnell.

What is the call in my heart?
“How might your life have been different if there had been a place for you? A place for you to go….a place of women, to help you learn the ways of women….a place where you were nurtured from an ancient flow sustaining you and steadying you as you sought to become yourself. A place of women to help you find and trust the ancient flow already there within yourself….waiting to be released.” Judith Duerk, Circle of Stone It is so important that women learn to trust each other and come together to share their stories. There is strength and power in women’s stories. And magic happens whenever women come together with intentions of honoring their sacred selves. Within the circle, women fully support each other to create the life they desire. For this to happen, sacred space must be created so that all unsacred aspects of the self can be witnessed and healed. A women’s circle is a group of women gathered together to support each other emotionally and spiritually. It is especially important for women to be witnessed and validated by other women because so often our experiences, feelings and needs are invalidated by our culture and the people who are close to us. Jean Shinoda Bolen’s book, The Millionth Circle, states that when a critical number of people change how they think and act, a new consciousness will prevail. According to this quote from www.millionthcircle.org “ A proliferation of circles with a spiritual center becomes a worldwide healing force by bringing feminine values of relationship, nurturing and interdependency into a global culture in which hierarchy, conflict and competition, power over others and exploitation of the earth’s resources are dominant values. “ Each of us brings a unique story and beauty to weave into a circle full of relatedness, connection, laughter, tears and joy. Our open-hearted commitment to each other will create this unfolding process We hope to emerge from this circle able to give voice to our stories, to recommit ourselves to fully enter our beauty-wisdom nature and to become midwives of our dreams and visions. In the circle we create a circle of abundance and strength. As we breathe, we embody our truths, as we move we find our dance, as we speak, we share our stories. The cirle encourages us to explore new possibilities of connection and joy. By naming and sharing our gifts in our sacred circle, we are enriched and enlivened, as individuals and as a joyful and potent community of women, committed to healing ourselves, our sisters and our world. In telling our stories, we reconnect with some of our lost parts. We can honor the divine feminine and divine masculine within us and keep them in balance. The women in the circle reflect back each other’s beauty allowing each of us to acknowledge one another’s magnificence. Yoga as a part of our circle…this devotion is to help women inhabit their bodies with loving-attention and respect, inviting us to respond intuitively to our body’s wisdom.
